A photo of a military catholic priest ministering at a podium with a rifle strapped to his arms has generated a social media debate.

The photo was taken at the St. James Catholic Cathedral located in the military base in Yobe state during the height of the Boko Haram insurgency.
The priest is seen with his Ak47 rifle strapped to his shoulders as he carries out his ministry to his congregation.
Others however, faulted the priest for carrying a gun in the Cathedral.
They said the priest lacked the courage to believe that God can fight his battles.
Another group suggested that carrying guns to places of worship could help reduce insecurity in the country

Oyedepo lays curses on sponsors of violence in southern Kaduna

Founder of the Living Faith church, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has asked God to break-up Nigeria immediately if that is His will for the country.
Bishop Oyedepo also invoked God’s wrath on those behind the mayhem in southern Kaduna.

Oyedepo lays curses on sponsors of violence in southern Kaduna
Vanguard reports that during a ministration in his church, Oyedepo rained curses on those promoting the killings and destruction of properties in the northern state and in an area predominantly occupied by Christians.
The angry Oyedepo was quoted as releasing powerful curses during a prayer session saying: “God sent me as His apostle of liberation to this continent to stop it from decadence.
“I heard from God and He has proved it beyond measure. Therefore, every occultic root, every political root of this uprising is cursed today!
“All the northern forces that are sponsoring this uprising and killings, I decree the curse of God upon them.
Lord, if it is your will to break up Nigeria, break it now!”
He told his members: “Come on, pray in the spirit everybody. Pray in the spirit; open fire, call down the Holy Ghost fire to descend on the camp of the enemy. Enough is Enough!
“If Nigeria wakes up, wait for the church to rise, there will be no more nation, what nonsense.”
“What demonic devils. What Islamic demons. If Nigeria waits for the church to rise, Nigeria will disappear as a nation.
“You mean God cannot protect people? What a mess!
“Every agent of destruction in Government today, call fire down on their head, call fire down on their head.
“Everyone sponsoring evil against the nation, let your fire fall on him!
“A Boko Haram agent was captured and they said he escaped. Everyone connected to his escape, fire consume them, consume them, consume them!
“Fire of the Lord consume them!
“I was even told from report that they were targeting this church. I said what? Even if I was asleep, if you see anybody here kill him! Kill him and spill his blood on the ground. I am saying that to you, what nonsense, what devil. You think our God is an idol?
“If I put fire on your tail to overrun the city, you will do it in one minute. What is that? What devil?

“I stand today with every authority on me, and I declare the Boko Haram camp cursed!
I declare their collaborators cursed! I decree their sponsors cursed!
“I declare their collaborators cursed. I decree their sponsors cursed!
“Must the north continue to rule?
“What devils!
God has anointed me to lead a revolution against the Islamic jihadist and as the Lord liveth and as the anointing of Jeru-Baal that’s on me, we declare them extinct in the name of Jesus! Amen!
“You catch anyone that looks like them, kill him!
“There is no reporting to anybody. Kill him! Pull off his neck! And we spill his blood on the ground. What nonsense.
“They said why should Christians say they could defend themselves, hold it! What stupid statement, why should Christians say they could defend themselves? So, they should watch for you to put a knife to their necks?
“You think we are dummies? What! What?

“All those zeros census they are fake. Where are the human beings?
Where are they? We go around the place. Where are they?
“We’ve never had a successful census in this country. Where are they?
“Don’t mistake only those in politics as in power. The anointed in the Lord are the ones in power. By divine ordination, don’t mistake that.
“There was a king in the land but Elijah was determining the events of the nation.
“If i say it will not rain here for three years, it will not drop. What nonsense!
“Who born their mother, who born their father? They are too small.
“Come! Get excited and walk in confidence. Any devil that misbehaves around you will be slain by the fire!"

IPOB fires back at MASSOB's founder

- The indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) has replied the founder of MASSOB, Uwazurike, over the allegations he made against Nnamdi Kanu
- IPOB gave Uwazurike 4 days to provide evidence to back up his accusations or the group will bring out incriminating evidences against MASSOB’s founder
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday, January 12, fired back at the founder of Movement of the Actualisation of Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB), Ralph Uwazurike over the allegations he made against Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB asked Uwazuruike to substantiate his allegation of fraud against their leader Nnamdi Kanu, or get ready to be exposed.

IPOB fires back at Uwazurike
The group in a press statement made available to Punch, in Awka, Anambra state by IPOB’s Deputy leader, Uche Mefor gave Uwazuruike four days to provide such information.
It maintained that if Uwazurike was unable to provide evidence, IPOB would bring incriminating evidence against the MASSOB founder that would make his followers to lynch him.
IPOB said that if Uwazurike had been committed to the restoration of Biafra as he made people believe, there wouldn’t have been need for the formation of other pro-Biafra liberation movements like IPOB, BZM and even his BIM.
The statement in parts reads: “On behalf of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the entire Biafrans, we are giving Raphael Lebeanya Uwazuruike four days to provide evidence that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu are fraudsters. The Punch newspaper on January 10, 2017, reported that Raphael Lebeanya Uwazuruike “described Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB as fraudsters who are out to deceive gullible people.
“We in IPOB at this moment demand that Uwazuruike must provide evidence to prove that Nnamdi and IPOB members under his leadership are fraudsters. Uwuzuruike’s evidence must be proven beyond every reasonable doubt. The evidence must not be anecdotal or mere conjecture, but verifiable and provable acts of fraud carried out by either Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or members of IPOB.
“You are about to be unmasked big time. Your life will no longer be the same after the 15th of January 2017. Go and prepare for your final disgrace and exit from the efforts to restore Biafra. Our facts and evidence will speak for itself. You are about to understand why IPOB is a monster that consume enemies of Biafra both within and outside.
“At the end of this process even those that never knew before now would come to the inescapable conclusion that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB are whiter than white and whiter than snow. You Lebeanya Uwazuruike will testify with your own mouth in public that Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB has the divine mandate from the Most High Supreme Creator of the Universe Chukwu Okike Abiama púrú íme ihe nile to restore Biafra in truth and honesty.”

Heartbreaking things our daughters told us about politicians sponsoring Boko Haram, Sambisa – Chibok Pastor

- The 21 recently released Chibok girls have narrated their ordeal in the captivity of their Boko Haram abductors to a clergy, Pastor Bulus
- They told Bulus they were not immediately taken into the forest after capture but to a house in Borno Government Residential Area (GRA) in Maiduguri where they stayed for two months
- From the GRA, the girls said they were taken to Gwoza where they claimed that a top politician allegedly housed them in one of his residences for about 8 months
- The girls also reportedly said that some of the Chibok girls never made it to Sambisa forest as they were killed in Gwoza by a bomb allegedly dropped on the house they were staying by a Nigerian Airforce fighter jet
Chibok Pastor Bulus tells 21 released girls sad tale
The 21 recently released girls pictured here have told a clergy man of how politicians played a major role in their disappearance for over two years.
The recently released Chibok girls have revealed details of how some politicians allegedly sponsored the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast for their personal gains.
According to a Chibok clergy called Pastor Bulus Baba from Kaya community in Chibok local government area of Borno state, his discussions with some of the girls revealed that some politicians reportedly played an active part in their abduction.
In an interview with Daily Post in Maiduguri, Pastor Bulus said the politicians reportedly did this in order to frustrate the administration of past president Goodluck Jonathan.
First, he said, the girls claimed they were not immediately driven into the forest as widely believed, but were first taken to a house in Borno Government Residential Area in Maiduguri where they stayed for two months before they were taken to Gwoza where they claimed that a top politician allegedly housed them in one of his residences for about 8 months.
Chibok girls reveal politicians' part in their capture
President Buhari, Vice president Osinbajo with the girls. The federal government said none of the girls was abused.
They were however forced to head into Sambisa forest after a bomb was dropped on the compound by a Nigerian Airforce fighter jet. Some of the Chibok girls and other women abducted along with them were allegedly killed in the attack.
Bulus said: ”The girls said, they spent over 8 months in Gwoza local government area along with other abducted women. They said they were kept at a resident of one of the top politicians in that local government area until at a point when a fighter jet dropped bomb that touch part of the house killing some of the girls.”
The Boko Haram had released a video some time ago and claimed that the Nigerian Armed Forces mistakenly killed some civilians while dropping bombs. But the Nigerian Airforce denied killing civilians in its attack.
The girls said that after leaving Gwoza, they were divided into groups and while some severely sexually abused and others were forced to marry the militants.
The federal government however declared (upon release of 21 girls) that none of them had been abused.
Pastor Bulus said: “It was a sad story, we believe that those behind this evil will never go unpunished. For us in Chibok, we will keep praying that, those of them who are still being held by their captors shall gain freedom and be reunited with their families like these ones that came home.”
Meanwhile, in its determined counter-terrorism efforts, the Department of State Services says it has recorded major successes against criminal gangs, kidnap syndicates and Boko Haram terrorists across the country.
The agency says the successes have further degraded the capability of these elements to operate in the county.

Saraki gives Senators new tasks in 2017

The Nigerian Senate resumed from its Christmas recess on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, with Bukola Saraki, the president of the upper legislative chamber, meeting with his colleagues and addressing them before the day’s plenary.
Saraki gives Senators new tasks in 2017
Saraki and Buhari met three times in December 2016
Saraki, who in December, 2016 had three closed-door meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari explained issues affecting the country and told his colleagues how to help with their duties in 2017.
The Senate also impeached Ali Ndume as its leader at the session which happened to be the first in 2017.
1. BILLS PASSED
Saraki explained that though 2016 was very challenging, the senators put in their best to ensure a level of success among which is the passing of 49 bills while 68 other bills scaled second reading. “It is already historic that within the last quarter, which incidentally is the second quarter of this session, we all rolled up our sleeves, with sweat on our brows and successfully passed 49 bills through 3rdreading and 68 bills through second reading. This is a record setting feat, which has never been matched in the history of the National Assembly,” he said.
2. THE REALITY OF THE TIMES
The Senate president reminded his colleagues that the country was still seriously in recession and efforts must be made to help with solutions. According to him, “people are still being laid off; so long as factories are closing shop, for as the hardship in the land continues to bite harder, investment continues to dwindle and the foreign exchange market remains fragmented."
3. UNCOMPLETED BILLS
He urged his colleagues to expedite action on the pending bills which have been carried over from 2016. He also gave those in charge of the bills the first quarter of 2017 to complete them.
4. ECONOMIC REFORMS
“We promise to pass our priority economic reform bills to help aid our economic recovery. This is a promise we must keep. There are already, new NASSBER research findings projecting that our priority bills, will have an output impact equivalent to an average of 6.87 percent of GDP over a five-year period on the economy. The average annual growth in jobs is estimated at approximately 7.55 million additional employments as well as an average of 16.42 percent reduction in Nigeria’s poverty rate. Over the projected five-year period, it is suggested that the reforms, which these bills would engender, may add an average of N3.76 trillion to National incomes (National disposable income was N85.62 trillion in 2014), equivalent to 4.39 percent of 2014 figures,” he said.
5. BUDGET CONSIDERATION
The Senate president said the chamber would start considering the 2017 budget which is to hold in three ‘sitting days’ of the next week. He also hinted that the Senate would consider the implementation of the report of the committee on budget reforms which would allow Nigerians partake in budget consideration processes. He pleaded to with his colleagues to make the passage of the budget one of the best in the country.
6. MADE-IN-NIGERIA
He said the drive to encourage the made-in-Nigeria initiative would be given a special impetus in 2017. He added that the Senate had played a major role in passing the amendment to the Procurement Act for which it is awaiting concurrence by the House of Representatives and for the immediate assent of President Muhammadu Buhari. “I for one, intend to put the full weight of my office behind this initiative to build the trust and ensuing patronage of Nigerians in goods and products made by our own people. I truly believe that this is the singular policy that can play a key role in getting out of this recession, provide the needed jobs; and keep the economy going,” he said.
7. POLICY INCONSISTENCY
Saraki said this would be tackled to boost the economy as well as agriculture. He said this is also needed for the much talked-about diversification and exploration of solid minerals.
8. POWER SECTOR
The Senate president admitted that there are errors in the privatization process of the power sector of the country and the model by which it is run. According to him, the revelations from the investigation into the process have been mid-boggling. “It has failed and nobody appears willing to tackle the issue head-on towards a permanent resolution,” he said adding that he has mandated the Senate committee on power to continue the consultation with the relevant parties to forge a path to solving the electricity challenge of the country.
9. SOUTHERN KADUNA MAYHEM
Saraki called the attention of his colleagues to the attacks and killings of citizens in the Southern part of Kaduna state. While condemning the continued violence in the area, Saraki said the Senate will not pay lip-service to the issue or watch helplessly as people are killed on the basis of religion, ethnic group or political persuasion. “This new theatre of conflict is one too many and must be nipped in the bud,” he said.
10. PETROLEUM SECTOR CHALLENGE
Saraki called on the executive arm of the federal government to urgently dialogue with stakeholders and those in the Niger Delta to end their agitations. This, he said, would benefit the Nigeria in the end. He proposed that the engagement should be sincere, constructive, open, and confidence-building.
11. DATA TARIFF HIKE
He pleaded with his colleagues to pay special attention to the protection and preservation of consumer rights, especially where it concerns the proposed data tariff hike. “We will not stand for the exploitation of consumers and we have already shown that we are unafraid to tackle such an issue whether perpetrated by public or private sector service-providers; as was the case of the intended data tariff hike proposed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) which we moved swiftly to prevent. We want people to know that they can run to us and we will in turn rise in defense of the Nigerian consumer who should be respected as a driving force in the economy,” he said.

UPDATE: Ali Ndume kicks after APC lawmakers remove him as Senate majority leader

Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South has been removed as Senate Leader as serious indications emerged on Tuesday, January 10, that the in-houses crises in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a new turn.
Ali Ndume removed as Senate leader
APC lawmakers have removed Ali Ndume as Senate leader and presented Ahmed Lawan as the new man for the position.
The APC caucus in a letter which was transmitted to the Senate on Tuesday forwarded the name of Senator Ahmed Lawan of Yobe North as the new Senate leader.
The letter was read by Senate President Bukola Saraki.
According to the APC caucus, the decision was arrived at during the party’s caucus meeting on Monday, January 9.
However, Ali Ndume has rejected his removal as Senate Majority leader by the APC senate caucus.
"I still remain Senate Leader, '' Ndume claimed during a press briefing with National Assembly correspondents on Tuesday.
He added that he was not aware of his removal by the APC Senate Caucus because he had no knowledge of when the decision to remove him was taken.
Analysts believe Ndume's removal is bound to cause crisis in the Senate since the lawmaker will not go down without a fight.
Ali Ndume was a member of the Federal House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011 representing Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of ANPP.
He was unanimously elected minority leader in the lower house's 6th Assembly in 2007.
In December 2010, barely 100 days to 2011 elections Ndume decamped to the PDP and as a result of this, the PDP re-opened the sale of nomination forms for the senate and Alhaji Sanda Garba, the only aspirant, stepped down for him.
However, he later teamed up with the new PDP (nPDP) along with 20 of his colleagues in what eventually became known today as the APC.
In 2015 election, he was re-elected and became the Leader of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 8th Assembly.
